Good Shepherd
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Developed by Sofia Cavalletti, an Italian Hebrew scripture scholar, we are building on the work and methods of Maria Montessori, the Catechesis seeks to give children the guidance and vocabulary which enable them to become aware of their relationship with God and give expression to it. With the Catechesis we help each child to continue to fall in love with God while building community among peers.
- We have an [atrium] a place where the child works and comes to know the great love of Jesus
- realities of …life as a Christian but also and above all, a place where the child begins to live these realities in meditation and prayer. There is nothing of the academic classroom about the atrium; it is a place for working with the material provided.
- religious instruction but religious life (Sofia Cavalletti, RPOC)
- The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd takes its name from the parable and image of Jesus that seemed to appeal most to young children
Developmentally Structured
Each level of the child’s work explores the fundamental theme of covenant, God’s call and our response, as reflected in the Bible and as lived in liturgy. At Level 1 the 3-6 year-olds have the capacity to receive and enjoy the most essential elements of our faith: the mysteries of the Kingdom of God, the announcement of God’s love given for us in the person of Jesus, the Good Shepherd. At Level II the 6-9 year-olds focus on the image of the True Vine, deepening their relationship with God, family, friends and the larger community as they prepare for and celebrate communion, broadening their understanding of Mass.
In this way we insist children attend 2 years Catechism before they can receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confession and Holy Communion.

Edge
What is Edge?
Edge is a Catholic middle school youth ministry program. It provides a safe, fun place for youth to find a solid Catholic community, to get answers to their questions about faith, and, most importantly, to experience Jesus in a profound and personal way. Edge resources speak to the physical, psychological, cognitive, relational, and spiritual maturation of middle school youth. Edge resources make it easier for youth ministers to plan out their semesters of Edge Night, retreats, and to train a team of young adults, the Core Team, to assist them in the ministry. The resources present Catholic teaching in a way that young people can understand.
When do we meet
Every 2nd and 4th Friday of the Month from 6-8pm during school term.

About
Throughout the history of Christianity, people of all faiths have found their way to the Catholic Church. While each person’s journey is as unique as the individual themselves, all are drawn to the one God and for the same purpose – to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him. The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults offers a program of faith formation for adults 18 years and older that will prepare them for full initiation/communion into the Catholic Church at Easter.
If you are interested in becoming Catholic and be prepared to be initiated into the Church, then please contact the parish office via email or phone call
